Don't Let AI Derail Your Next Project's PR

Just a common developer like you ! Let's learn together and lift up each other.

There is no denying AI's potential to simplify communications and project management. But are we ignoring a serious risk to the public perception of our project in our haste to implement the newest technology? It's time to have a critical discussion about the possibility of a significant AI-driven PR catastrophe before you entrust your next press release or stakeholder communications to an algorithm.

Although there hasn't yet been a disastrous project PR failure brought on exclusively by AI, the warning signs are growing. Major airline customer support chatbots have created policies that have resulted in legal issues. We've seen reputable publications' AI-generated content be accused of being heartless "slop," undermining reader confidence. Additionally, there is a serious risk that AI algorithms will produce offensive or discriminatory content due to their inherent biases.

These incidents provide a glimpse into a future where an over-reliance on AI could have disastrous consequences for a project's reputation and, ultimately, its success, even though they are not directly related to a particular project's PR campaign.

Important Warning Signs to Look Out for in Your Projects:

Over-reliance on Automation: Is your team substituting artificial intelligence (AI) for real human interaction? The public and stakeholders may become resentful of automated responses and content that lacks a human touch.

"Garbage In, Garbage Out": The caliber of the data your AI is trained on has a direct impact on the caliber of its output. Communications that are inaccurate and biased will result from biased or erroneous data.

Absence of Human Oversight: AI ought to complement human judgment rather than take its place. To guarantee correctness, tone, and suitability, a human must evaluate each piece of AI-generated content and each AI-driven interaction.

Ignoring Data Privacy: Are you making sure that private project or stakeholder data isn't being entered into open AI models, which could lead to a security and privacy catastrophe?

The "Black Box" Problem: When something goes wrong, you can't defend your AI if you can't explain how it came to a certain conclusion or produced a certain piece of content.

Efficiency and cost savings can be very alluring, but no project can afford the reputational harm that could result from a badly handled AI integration. Let's advocate for a "human-in-the-loop" strategy that uses AI as a potent helper while keeping our strategic thinking, moral principles, and—above all—our genuine voice at the forefront of the public relations for our project.
